Make the most of your small terrace15 abr 2015

It’s time to fill in your pool, to take out your deck chairs and umbrellas and prepare your gardens to enjoy the sun and the nice weather that is already here.

Sorry… pool? garden? what are we talking about? But if in our small apartments we barely have place for a little balcony or a small terrace where we can’t even have an inflatable toy pool!

But this is no excuse. During these past months we have learnt to make the most of our small spaces, and our small terrace is not less important. Having a little outdoor space at home is just wonderful, but many times we don’t take profit of it because we think it is so small to enjoy and we use it as storage or similar. This is such a big mistake. Let’s see some examples of how we can make the most of our small terraces so we really enjoy them.

The simplest way to enjoy your terrace will be to include a little table and some folding chairs. As you can see, even in a minimum balcony you can create such a pleasant nook to enjoy a breakfast, read your favourite magazine or just sunbathe for a little while.

Other option could be to include a little bench on the side of your balcony. You will get a place to rest or comfly sunbathe while you will still have most part of the space empty so you can go out with convenience. Besides, you could use the bench as storage.

But maybe your terrace is just not even a balcony but a big window with railing. So just leave your windows wide open, get your favourite chair, get comfortable and enjoy the views.

And, last, if you don’t even have a big window with railing….

I have seen this scene so many times in Amsterdam. Young people seated on their window sills reading, having a glass of wine or even eating spaghetti, like that. At first, it felt weird to me, I felt even scared for them. But after a few months of living that Amsterdam “way of life” I understood… why not?

Your home is all yours so enjoy it as you like. Do not deprive yourself of any little pleasure you could enjoy at home just because you think you don’t have the perfect space for it. With a little bit of imagination you will always find the way.

How do you feel about these ways of enjoying your small terraces? Will you keep using them as a storage place?
