Ever since I was a child I like to walk barefooted at home and sitting on the floor every time I have an occasion. Ever since I was a child my mother scolds me every time I do it. But it is not the same to walk barefooted on the naked floor than on an fluffy and soft rug. Oh, yes! That is the way it should be. And if, in addition, the rug is as beautiful as any of Nanimarquina ‘s collection, even mother would love it!
Their showroom in Barcelona is located in an old car garage which was refurbished in a simple and elegant way. You can also visit another Nanimarquina’s space in New York because, even it is a small and familiar business, they have gained a great worldwide recognition.
Their rugs are colorful and plenty of life and elegant and delicate at a time. They have own designs as well as collaborations with prestigious designers and artists as Javier Mariscal or Eduardo Chillida.
Their rugs are completely handmade in India, encouraging their local economy and offering new opportunities to its population. As part of this social mission, project Kala arises.
They organised a children’s drawing contest and the winner draw was the main inspiration for the Kala design, the most colourful and cheerful rug of the brand. From the sale of each rug, 150€ were assigned to the construction of a school for 400 Indian children. Nowadays, this money helps to continue its developing and maintenance.
Nani Marquina is a dreamer and determined woman who has managed to give name to a small but great company, committed to society and with a deserved worldwide reputation.
What do you think about Nanimarquina designs? I will be willing to line all my house with their rugs! And you?
